Getting a new entertainment space in Reading

I needed a fitted bar after hosting a party where we ran out space. I decided to look near Forbury Gardens.

I stumbled upon the site while browsing and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a price that seemed fair for the job.

The process of organising this project was actually quite involved. I spent many days thinking on the layout of the room before even picking up the device. My living area has always felt a bit unfinished, and having a proper zone for drinks felt like the ideal solution to that problem. I remember standing in my hallway looking at a messy countertop filled with glassware and feeling that something had to change. The first interaction with the staff was extremely simple, which provided me assurance. We discussed various styles, from contemporary minimalist designs to something classic and timber finishes. I was quite surprised by how many information they requested about the dimensions and the current decor of my house. It felt like they genuinely wanted the final result to blend seamlessly with the balance of the property. I offered various angles in the images I sent, making sure each nook was visible. They explained that the bespoke type of the unit meant that accuracy was absolutely critical to prevent any problems during the installation. We moved back and back on possible materials, looking at swatches of quartz and various types of wood patterns. It is amazing how many consideration goes into picking the right hardware, like pulls and copyrights, which can completely change the feel of the whole construction. I needed a place where I could easily prepare cocktails for guests without needing to repeatedly dash back to the kitchen for ice or glasses. The ease of having everything in one spot was the primary reason for this investment. We settled the design following a brief consultation where all my concerns about wiring and lighting sockets were addressed. I appreciated that they didn't hurry the design phase, spending the time to make sure that the depth of the racks was sufficient for my tallest glassware. It felt like a joint process instead than a simple sale, which is rare to locate nowadays.

The installation day came faster than expected, and the fitter was on time and prepared. He started by placing down protective covers to make sure my flooring remained clean. Watching the parts being unloaded was fascinating, as the quality of the wood was immediately evident. He meticulously checked the alignment of the floor before attaching the base structure of the unit. I watched as the skeleton gradually gained form, transforming a plain corner into a functional feature. The degree of skill required in fitting the panels to the uneven surfaces of my older home was notable. He explained why each piece fitted together to provide maximum stability. We wasted a little time deciding on the exact height for the integrated cooler, ensuring it was accessible to reach but hidden away from main view. The installation of the counter was the most rewarding part of the whole process. Seeing the polished surface at last resting on the cabinets helped the vision feel real. He next installed the mirrored backing, which instantly made the space to feel double the size. The lighting were connected next, and checking them for the initial moment was a highlight. The soft light underneath the racks showcased the bottles perfectly. I was able to visualise precisely how handy this might be for night events. The fitter was very careful, taking the time to clean down every surface and remove any debris created during the cutting. He also demonstrated me how to adjust the shelves if I later wanted to house bigger items. The focus to detail was truly great, right down to the sealant lines around the edges. It was obvious that he took immense satisfaction in his craft, which is consistently reassuring to see. We did a last inspection of the completed work to ensure everything was to standard. I noted that a single handle was a bit loose, and he fixed it straight away with a quick turn of a screwdriver. This thoroughness is just what I was hoping for when I booked the service.

The completed area appears completely stunning and has become the main point of my home. It offers a classy feel that had been previously missing from my reception space. The capacity is immense, allowing me to organise all my spirits, mixers, and specialist glasses in one unified place. No more do I have to rummage inside cluttered cupboard shelves to find a bottle opener or a certain type of tumbler. Everything has its rightful home, which renders entertaining so more simpler and relaxing. I love the way the finishes reflect the light in the evenings, making a inviting atmosphere. My guests have now complimented the design multiple times, with some actually asking for the details of the people who built it. It really seems like a bespoke extra made exactly for my lifestyle. The height fitted bar of the countertop is ideal for standing by with a glass, and the integrated LED strips offer just the correct level of illumination without being overpowering. Even when not in use, it works as a lovely item of cabinetry that lifts the entire aesthetic of the property. I spent a bit time arranging my bottles on the shelves to make a pleasing arrangement. The glass panels really assist in displaying the bottles and adding depth to the tight space. It has encouraged me to experiment creating new cocktails that I before thought were too fussy to attempt in a standard kitchen. Having the tap nearby might have been nice, but the space limits resulted in we decided against it to save storage space. This was a conscious choice we made during the planning stage, and I certainly not regret it. The extra cupboard room for straws and accessories is much more valuable to me in the long term.

There were a few of minor drawbacks that are fair to mentioning for a balanced view. The lead time for the custom doors was a bit longer than I initially wanted. It lasted about eight days from the initial deposit to the final fitting appointment. While this is expected for tailored furniture, it required a some of waiting on my part. I had hoped to have it finished for a certain event, but we missed that deadline by a few days. However, the communication from the office about the progress were regular, so I was never left in the unknowing. I would wait a bit more for a result that is made to last than receive a rushed job that breaks after a couple years. The start cost estimate was additionally slightly less than the total invoice, mostly because I decided to upgrade the hardware and include extra internal lights midway through the process. These changes were entirely my decision, and the team was extremely transparent about the additional fees required. Another minor issue was the volume of packaging left after the install. Although the worker cleaned up the build site well, there was a large amount of waste to dispose of in my recycling. It was not a big deal, but something to consider if you have limited bin room. Despite these minor points, the total experience was vastly positive. The quality of the finish is much better to anything I might have bought off-the-shelf. It feels sturdy and well-constructed, and I am confident it will handle decades of parties. I believe the value it has given to my home well outweighs the initial outlay. It has transformed the way I use my living area, rendering it much more inviting. I no longer sense cluttered when people visit.

Thinking back on the whole experience, I am really happy I opted ahead with it. The first spark originated from a trip to a neighbour's house in London, where they had a comparable bar. I realised then how much it improved the flow of the party. When I returned to Reading, I started looking for local options and found that working with a bespoke provider was the only route to get the precise look I wanted. The ability to pick each detail, from the shade of the paint to the position of the plug outlets, ensured the final result was just as I pictured. I also had a tiny secret drawer built for storing expensive items like silver spoons. This level of customisation is what makes the service special. It did not seem like a generic item being forced into a room where it didn't fit. Instead, it feels like it has forever been a part of the house. If you are considering a similar domestic improvement, my tip would be to remain calm and spend the effort on the planning stage. It is far better to change a sketch than it is to modify a unit once it is built. The knowledge provided during the start was crucial in stopping me from doing common errors, such as putting the fridge too close to a radiator. These small details of wisdom are what you pay for when you hire skilled experts. I am now looking at different parts of my home to see where else I might install fitted storage. The outcome of this bar project has given me the drive to start a larger task in the kitchen later year. It has been a wonderful addition to my life, and I look ahead to numerous years of enjoying it with family and friends. Finding the right balance between looks and use was the goal, and I feel we reached it completely. The journey from a cluttered corner to a stylish hosting hub was truly worth the time and investment required. I now have a space that I am really happy to share off to others. Reading has many great places to visit for a drink, but truthfully, I now favour staying at my place and enjoying my own private bar. It offers the same feel without the noise or the commute. That alone is worth the whole project. I am very pleased with how the lighting functions in the night, creating a chill space to relax after a long day at work. It is the small luxuries like this that render home life much rewarding and fulfilling. I highly appreciate the workmanship that went into the finished product. The manner the panels close with a soft thud tells volumes about the construction level. No detail was ignored, and the total look is precisely what I hoped it would be when I first started this adventure. It is a testament to the skill of the fitters and the quality of the components used. I am a very satisfied client.
